Januvia Information

Januvia is an oral prescription drug which works for the management of Type 2 diabetes. It comes under the class of drugs called the DPP – 4 inhibitors. Januvia tablet works by lowering down the blood sugar levels by blocking out an enzyme which is known as dipetidyl peptidase – 4.

Januvia helps in prolonging the insulin production, DPP – causes the breakdown of proteins which stimulates the cells which produce insulin after a meal. The level of glucose is lowered in the blood by the inhibition of DPP – 4; the proteins are able to activate the release of insulin for longer time duration.

Januvia Prescribed Dosage
100 milligrams once a day, but based on the renal function the dose may be adjusted. It is not required for Januvia to be taken with a meal like other oral prescription medicines for diabetes.

Januvia Precautions
Before Prescribing Januvia to any type 2 diabetic patients, doctor should have complete information about patient’s medical condition:

• Kidney problems
• Allergies
• Pregnant
• Lactating – as Januvia may be passed on in the milk.

In clinical trails following drugs which are likely to interact with Januvia are:

• Tenormin – beta –blockers
• MAOI – a monoamine oxidase inhibitor
• Bactrim – sulfa drugs
• Aspirin
• NSAIDs - nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
• Benemid – probenecid

Storage
Januvia Tablets should be away from heat and moisture and kept away from children.

Remember
This medication should be used for the condition it has been prescribed for. Do not share your medication with others for who it has not been prescribed as it can enhance the side effects of the drug.
