Galvus is still to receive its approval from the FDA. It works in the same manner as Januvia.

Galvus (vildagliptin) has been accepted for standard review by the FDA, if Galvus receives it approval, it will turn out to be a very convenient once a day oral treatment which would in turn be an extremely suitable option to help in the treatment of type 2 diabetes.

Galvus also comes under the class of drugs called the DPP- 4 inhibitors which are also known as gliptins which work to enhance the body’s own system of bringing down blood glucose. They help in raising the levels of hormones which naturally occur called the GLP-1 which is released in the stomach and intestines during eating which results in more insulin and discourages the liver from producing sugar. Galvus works on both the pancreatic alpha and beta cells which leads to a major reduction in sugar production in the liver which helps in keeping the blood sugar under control with an increased production of insulin.

The only visible difference between the two drugs is based on the studies and research on the lowering risks of hypoglycemia and increase in the beta cell function which results in creation of insulin in the body, in which Januvia scored much better and was more effective than Galvus.
